Tañada Receives Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan on the 131st Birth anniversary of Manuel L. Quezon

“I am very happy and humbled that my fellow Quezonians have given me such an honor. Throughout our everyday lives, it is important to remember the lessons that history has taught us and to follow the examples of those who came before us. Like former President Manuel L. Quezon, We must all strive to work for the common good and help our fellow men.”

“The ways, words and work of MLQ remain relevant to us even if they were done and uttered decades ago and I quote two of his famous sayings- “I prefer a government run like hell by Filipinos to a government run like heaven by Americans.” and “My loyalty to my party ends where my loyalty to my country begins” The elements of the kind of leadership that Quezon showed, remains to be the kind of leadership that our province , even our country needs such as: Pagsasarili, pagkakaroon ng identity, ang pagkakaroon ng lakas ng loob upang mamuno at pagbutihin ang pamumuno, pagmamahal sa bansa, hindi sa partido – yan ang hanggang ngayon ay kailangang kailangan natin. We must have leaders who empower people, not enslave them to perpetual dependency. We must have leaders who do not simply have blind loyalty to parties and personalities, totally oblivious of what is happening around and how misgoverned the country is. We must have leaders who should show us how great it is to be a Filipino, to have our own identity.”

Thus is part of the speech of gratitude from Quezon 4th District Representative, Lorenzo ‘Erin’ Tanada during the awarding ceremony for the Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan for Government Service/Legislation held today at the Quezon Convention Center, Lucena City.

The Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan is the highest award conferred by the people of Quezon Province to its outstanding Quezonians for their exceptional and meritorious achievements rendered to the people of Quezon. It was established thru Provincial Board Resolution No.612 on August 5, 1970.
The Medalya ng Karangalan honors the sons and daughters of the province who, through their chosen life works, embodies the qualities and virtues of the late President Manuel L. Quezon. Among others, these virtues include: concern for the common people and promotion of social justice, nationalism, championing of civil liberties, integrity, and civic consciousness.
‘To be honored by one’s provincemates is beyond compare. Ito pong medalyang ito ay lubos kong pahahalagahan, gaya ng pagpapahalagang ginawa at nakita ko sa aking mga ninuno. Sana po ay maipamana ko ito sa susunod pang mga salinlahi ng mga Tañada. I can only hope that I’ll be able to inspire other Quezonians in my own little way thru my legislative and district work in Congress, and hopefully, even beyond my term. “he ended.
