TAÑADA:  “I DID NOT TRAVEL USING TAXPAYERS’ FUNDS”

Reacting to news reports that he was among those on “junket” last week using taxpayers’ money,  4th District Representative Lorenzo R. Tañada III clarified that indeed, he was on official mission but was not part of the Speaker’s delegation. He instead attended the Asian Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus (AIPMC) in Kuala Lumpur.

“It is not true that I traveled business class to Malaysia nor did I receive a $300 per diem.  I traveled in economy class.  As a matter of fact, the House of Representatives did not pay for my ticket.  It was the AIPMC.  AIPMC is an organization lobbying for democracy in Burma and the release of all political prisoners,”  Tañada clarified.

He added, “those who released the report could have easily double checked their facts with the Inter-Parliamentary Relations and Special  Affairs Office.  Their record would show that I was not part of the Speaker’s official delegation.”
