PRESS STATEMENT

The statement of AFP Chief of Staff General Hermogenes Esperon Jr. is a cause for alarm. It would surely lead to an increased violations of human rights and unnecessary deaths of Filipinos on both sides. Gen. Esperon should realize that an all out war against the NPA will not bring about peace. History has proven this fact. It even leads to more unrest and an increase in the number of NPAs and their sympathizers. It is addressing poverty and the roots of social unrest that will bring just and lasting peace. It is my position that we should continue with peace negotiations without any side imposing any conditions.
